Large crowds of people gathered on the Washington Mall this weekend.

Bus loads of students and tour groups spent their Sunday afternoon visiting the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.

The official address of the monument, 1964 Independence Avenue, S.W., commemorates the year that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law.

The memorial, which covers four acres, opened to the public on August 22, 2011 after more than two decades of planning, fund-raising and construction.
