Compressed natural gas fueling stations are slowly beginning to pop up across our local landscape, but the vehicles they power have been hard to find. Two local dealers are hoping to change that by introducing factory made Dodge Ram CNG trucks as part of their 2013 inventory.
Landers Dodge in Bossier City and Herbert's Town and Country in Shreveport have received their initial shipments of the Ram trucks. Jeff Johnson, Businesslink Manager with Lander's Dodge says the fuel is clean-burning and inexpensive. "It's local, it's what we walk on everyday is a shale of gas underneath us," he explains. Current CNG prices run about $1.45 per gallon.
Waste management companies and local shale producer Chesapeake Energy have been using CNG in their commercials fleets for several years. Johnson says the new trucks need no additional equipment and are geared towards personal use. "Any person can walk off the street and buy this truck today," he says. There are currently two CNG refueling stations in Bossier City and one in Shreveport. The CNG equipped Ram comes with a HEMI v8 and puts out 383 horsepower. The price is around $51,000.
