Strong second half pushes Pilots to 66-49 victory over Wolfpack

Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots (19-6, 10-5) trailed 29-26 at halftime to the Loyola University Wolfpack (4-20, 1-13) Monday night, but held the Wolfpack to just 6-of-30 shooting from the floor in the second and battled their way to a 66-49 victory. The first half was a low scoring, slow tempo contest which finished 29-26 in favor of LU. LSUS however picked up the pace in the second half on both ends of the court and out scored the Wolfpack 40-20 as they cruised to their 3rd consecutive victory. Torry Beaulieu collected team high 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolfpack who finished just 18-of-58 (31%) from the floor, and were out rebounded 51-28 on the night. Jamon Morris collected his 14th double-double of the season after finishing with 15 points and a season high 17 rebounds for the Pilots. Travis Cash slammed home two points in the closing seconds to collect his first double-double of the season as he finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Blake Whittle struggled from the field but still managed to collect 17 points which included a 5-for-5 performance from the line. Freddy Hughes and Greg Tyer rounded off the Pilots offense with 10 points a piece. With the victory the Pilots moved into second place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference standings. The Pilots sit just half a game out of 1st place and will play host to the conference leading Xavier University Gold Rush Thursday night at The Dock. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
