If you haven't gotten your flu shot, it's not too late.
The Red Cross is holding a flu vaccination clinic between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Shreveport office on 805 Brook Hollow Drive.
Flu vaccinations cost $25 and pneumonia vaccinations
will also be available for $30.
Common flu symptoms are high fever, severe body
aches, headache, being extremely tired, sore throat, cough, runny or stuffy
nose, and vomiting and/or diarrhea.
The Red Cross also has some tips on how you can prevent the spread of the influenza virus:
- Cover the nose and mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing, and throw the tissue away after use. If a tissue isn't available, cough or sneeze into the elbow, not the hands.
- Wash hands often, especially after coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand-rub.
- Avoid touching the eyes, nose or mouth.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home if sick.
Widespread flu activity is being reported in 41 states, including Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.
The Centers for Disease Control says this is the
worst influenza outbreak in several years in the U.S.
