LA lawmakers enact tougher penalties for SNAP fraud

Louisiana lawmakers are making food stamp fraud tougher starting this year.

Senate Bill 633, Act 677 stiffens the penalties for unauthorized use of SNAP funds. If convicted of SNAP benefit fraud, you face fines ranging from $5,000.00 to $1,000,000.00 dollars, or jail time up to ten years.

The new law also punishes state employees, retailers that accept SNAP benefits, and adult family members of snap recipients, for failing to report fraud. Fines range from $250 to $5,000.00.
