Man dies after being hit by a train on New Year's Eve

Authorities are trying to figure out why a man walked into the path of an oncoming train in Texarkana.

The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of S. Robison Road.

Police say the 51-year-old black male was struck after he allegedly walked into a Union Pacific train as it was travelling across the intersection.

The person's identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

No one on the train was injured.

Missing dog gets reunited with owner
