NATCHITOCHES - Fourteen players scored, six in double figures, while Northwestern State posted its biggest winning margin in 21 seasons as the Demons cruised to a 102-52 rout of visiting NCAA Division III member LeTourneau Monday afternoon, in NSU's final tuneup before starting Southland Conference play at home Thursday night.

Northwestern (6-4) padded its 83.4 scoring average, matching that with 9:15 remaining, and generally played at a more deliberate pace in the final eight minutes against the outmatched Yellow Jackets (4-8). Only three Demons played at least half the 40 minutes led by 21 minutes from senior guard Shamir Davis as NSU matched a 50-point rout, 123-73, on Dec. 2, 1991 over Grambling.

Davis scored a game-high 14 points, while junior forward Patrick Robinson matched his career best with 13. Redshirt freshman guard Jalan West scored 13 and had four of the Demons' season-best 16 steals. Gary Stewart, James Hulbin and Gary Roberson all scored 10.

LeTourneau, which used 15 players to 16 for Northwestern, got 11 points from Kendrae Carter and 10 by Justin Jones. The Yellow Jackets were outrebounded 53-29, suffered 24 turnovers to only 10 for the Demons, and had major deficits in five scoring categories: 54-20 in points in the paint, 41-9 in points off turnovers, 29-5 in second-chance points, 16-2 on fast break points and 59-22 in bench scoring.

The Demons ran off 18 unanswered points over four minutes to open a 22-6 lead less than seven minutes into the game. A Robinson layup at the halftime buzzer allowed them to double up the Yellow Jackets for the first time at 54-27 and the margin grew afterwards, with the final score as the biggest spread.

NSU sophomore center Marvin Frazier snagged a game and career-best nine rebounds. Senior forward David Ulak notched his first career point in two seasons on a free throw with eight seconds left, then recorded his first career blocked shot and grabbed the rebound just before the final buzzer.

Conference play begins Thursday night at home against McNeese in a doubleheader beginning with a women's game at 5:30. Northwestern hosts Lamar Saturday in a 1 o'clock league doubleheader that will be the fourth game in seven days for the Demons.
