If you want to celebrate the New Year with an inspirational message you can visit Praise Temple.
Bishop L. Lawrence Brandon is inviting the Shreveport-Bossier community to come to the 2012 Watch Night/Love Fest Celebration.
On December 31, 1862 African Americans came together across the country, anxiously awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation by President Abraham Lincoln had actually become law. Then, at the stroke of midnight all slaves in the Confederate States were declared legally free.
Ever since, African Americans have traditionally gathered in churches on New Year's Eve, praising God for bringing them safely through another year.
The celebration begins at 7 p.m. at Praise Temple Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral on 4725 Greenwood Road.
