MSNBC is reporting that a New York woman has been arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of two volunteer firefighters on Christmas Eve.
Dawn Nguyen, 24, was taken into custody Friday and faces federal charges of knowingly making a false statement in the purchase of guns that were allegedly used in the slayings.
U.S. Attorney William Hochul said Nguyen bought the guns on behalf of William Spengler, 62, who is accused of shooting four firefighters while they were responding to a blaze he had started at his home outside of Rochester.
Hochul announced during a news conference that Nguyen allegedly acted as a "straw purchaser" for Spengler, who, as a convicted felon, could not legally own, acquire or purchase any firearm.
The charges are related to an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun, two of the three weapons found near Spengler's body on Monday.
Hochul also said that a suicide note left by Spengler includes information about obtaining the guns from Nguyen.
