SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Dirk Nowitzki made his return to the Dallas Mavericks lineup in a 129-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

The 11-time All-Star played 20 minutes and  scored eight points off-the-bench.

Nowitzki's return was an early Christmas gift for the struggling Mavericks (12-16). The 34-year-old underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Oct. 19. He was originially scheduled to return sometime after Christmas.

Darren Collison carried the offensive load for Dallas. The point guard from UCLA poured in 15 points off the bench on 6-of-9 shooting.

Spurs (21-8) guard Danny Green led everybody with 25 points in 23 minutes of action.

The Mavericks return to action Thursday, Dec. 27 at Oklahoma City.
