The Shreveport Police Department is working hard to reduce home burglaries. So far, home burglaries are down 14 percent in 2012. But, that decrease could be short lived.

In the past three weeks, police are seeing home burglaries increase. From Dec. 4-9, there were at least 30 reported in the city.  Police say home burglaries usually spike in December.

To prevent your home from being burglarized, police recommend purchasing a home alarm system, being friendly to your neighbors, promptly picking up your newspapers and mail, purchasing exterior lighting, trimming your shrubbery, utilizing deadbolt or double cylinder locks, and not leaving boxes to big-ticket items on the tree lawns.
