Louisiana Tech Loses Dykes to Cal'

Updated: December 5, 2012
Shortly after the news came down that Cal' had hired Sonny Dykes as its next football coach, Louisiana Tech wide receiver Quinton Patton wrote on his twitter page, "If it aint 1 thing its another."

It was an understandable tweet from a heartbroken player.

Just days prior, Patton and his team got the news they would not be playing in a bowl game, despite posting a 9-3 record and owning the nation's No. 1 ranked offense.

After three seasons in Ruston, Dykes will take his high-powered offensive philosophy to Berkeley, CA and hope to put points on the board at the same rate he did at Louisiana Tech.

In 2012, the Bulldogs posted 51.5 points per game (ppg). In each of Dykes three seasons at La Tech, the Bulldogs increased their scoring output.

Dykes will enter a construction zone at Cal', needing to rebuild and retool a roster to fit his offensive scheme and to improve on a 3-9 record.

He'll be entering a scoring frenzied Pac-12 conference that features Oregon, who averaged 50.8 ppg in 2012. California put up 23 ppg , ranking them No. 10 in the conference.

This hiring reunites Dykes with the Pac-12. Prior to his hiring at Louisiana Tech, Dykes spent three seasons (2007-2009) at Arizona. During his tenor, the Wildcats increased their offensive output by 130 yards per game and finished second in the Pac-10 in passing offense.
