Caddo sheriff's office teaches children gun safety

Before you give your child a gun for Christmas, they need to know the basics of firearms safety.

Registration is underway for those who are between the ages of 8 and 12 to participate in the Caddo Sheriff's Office "First Gun Course."

The course is recommended for children who will receive a new BB gun, shotgun, or hunting rifle for Christmas or for those who may already have a gun. 

The 4-hour class will be offered from 8 a.m. until noon on Dec. 15 and Jan. 5. 

All classes will be held at the Sheriff's Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy, 15639 Highway One South.

There is no charge for the course but pre-registration is required.
