Todd Warren, Chief Meteorologist for NBC 6 News, shared his knowledge and interest in weather and meteorology with sixth grade students at Ashdown Junior High School today (Nov. 30), as part of the Learning for Life School Success program for Character and Career Building.
This is Warren's fourth year to talk with sixth graders at AJHS, including a trip in the snow two years ago, in the pouring rain last year and on a foggy, dismal day this year, quite appropriate to spur the students' interest in what causes these conditions.
Warren gave students a look at the job of a weatherman and included student participation and interesting weather facts in his presentation. Learning for Life, brought to the schools by Caddo Area Council Boy Scouts and funded by such supporters as Texas Pioneer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Texarkana Area Community Foundation, strives to integrate academic and character education as well as promote career and leadership qualities.
Upcoming programs for Ashdown Junior High School's sixth, seventh and eighth graders include Millwood Corps of Engineers career building, Jumpstart volunteering training, Bullying and Internet Safety, and a Career Day in April that will feature more than a dozen local community and career speakers.
Contact persons at AJHS include Principal James Jones, Assistant Principal Tracy Forte, and 6th grade social studies teacher Kim Miller at 870-898-5138. Willis may be contacted at 1-800-903-7467.
