The Shreveport Fire Department is scouting out some possible future employees in a new initiative with the Boy Scouts of America.

According to Fred Sanders with the Shreveport Fire Department, a news conference will be held on Monday to announce the Fire and Emergency Explorer Scout Program.

At 10:30 a.m., at the Central Fire Station, located at 263 North Common Street, the Shreveport Fire Department will announce the opportunity for area youth to take part in a career development and mentoring program that allows participants to learn about possible career choices within the department.

According to a news release provided by Sanders, those taking part in the Explorers Scout Program will get a first hand look and become acquainted with fire and emergency crews, procedures, both in classroom and field environments. Explorers will get actual "hands-on" field experience, according to Sanders.

Parents and students are invited to attend The Explorer First Nighter, beginning at 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Fire Training Academy at 6440 Greenwood Road for more information.
