Blessing in Disguise

(Shreveport, LA) On Oct. 10th, 2012, Javin Webb picked a good game to have a good game.

In front of college coaches like Sonny Dykes from Louisiana Tech, and former NFL players Doug Williams and Jacob Hester, Webb exploded for a career high six touchdowns.

"To me, it was just another game," Webb said. "It was a big game because it was the next game, so I  I went out and played my hardest."

The game flared the radars of colleges like the University of Houston, but college wasn't always a strong possibility for Javin.

Before Evangel, he attended high school at Dacula, GA, where he played defensive back. Evangel head coach Phil Deas calls his arrival in Shreveport a blessing in disguise.

"He just walked in the door and said I'd love to play football and ever since then, we've just been rollin."

Javin agrees.

The words blessing in disguise are tattooed on his left arm, and considering his path to Evangel, it's hard to disagree.

"My parents moved to Shreveport. I moved with them. My grandmother's sick and my father came out to help tend to her."

He mentors kids at the Bill Cockrell community center in Shreveport. He believes his  touchdowns and his life wouldn't have been possible without someone mentoring him and he's a blessing in disguise to others.

"When I was a kid, I had people giving back to me and being a good influence on my life. I had some mentors that kept me on the right path and kept my head on straight."
