And although this may
be the first time millions of Americans met the Shreveport native, many locals
first saw him perform on Best Buddies DVDs.
Dez woke up early to skype
with me this morning and I had to ask him about Best Buddies, the Christian
children's videos he and his family produced more than ten years ago
"Can you see what
i have here? Oh no... What do you think about these? I like going back to watch
them and laugh at my siblings and pretend I'm not in it.... But no I love them that's
where I found my love of music and my mom taught me to sing making those
videos, it provided me a way to learn and I still watch them," Dez says.
His love of music came
from his family, who've been a fixture on several episodes of the voice this
season. They've been cheering Dez on from the wings and in the crowd. Their
favorite performance is the one that got him to this stage but Wednesday's song
is one Dez says he'll always remember.
"Wanted was a
stretch last night so it's my proudest performance because that was the toughest
song for me to sing and to have Christina stand up in the end was the greatest
moment of my life so far."
