Trice teacher named regional finalist for Arkansas Teacher of the Year

The Arkansas Department of Education has selected Mrs. Peggy Mills, a kindergarten teacher at Trice Visual and Performing Arts Magnet, as a 2012-2013 Arkansas Teacher of the Year regional finalist. As a finalist, Mills will receive a $1,000 cash award. 

   Mills and other regional finalists will attend the awards ceremony Nov. 28 at the Arkansas State Capital, at which time the Arkansas Teacher of the Year Award will be announced.

     In 1975,   Mills graduated from East Texas State University - Texarkana with a Bachelor of Science and received her Master of Science in Education degree in 1992.

  She has been a kindergarten teacher in the Texarkana Arkansas School District for 37 years. Twenty-six of those years were at Carver Kindergarten Center, where she was awarded the Carver Teacher of the Year.

The past 11 years of her career have been spent at Trice where she also received Campus Teacher of the Year, twice.
