Student arrested after bringing BB gun to school

A student was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly being in possession of a weapon on school grounds.
Shamichael White, 17, of the 9200 block of Dawn Ridge Drive in Shreveport was taken into custody at Southwood High School, 9900 Walker Road, and charged with illegal carrying of weapons
At approximately 11:23 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2012), officials with the Shreveport Police Department responded to the 9900 block of Walker Road relative to reports that a 17-year-old male had been reported as a runaway.
Upon officers' arrival at the address, contact was made with Shamichael White, 17, of the 9200 block of Dawn Ridge Drive in Shreveport.
It was determined that White had indeed been listed as a runaway but decided to report for school today.
Perplexed by White's actions, officers' initiated a query into the sequence of events. During the course of the officer's investigation, an inspection of a backpack in White's possession was conducted.
Upon close inspection of the backpack, a realistic looking handgun was discovered therein. It was quickly determined that the located item was a BB gun. Shreveport Police Investigators were contacted and began their investigation into the discovery and sought a motive for the gun being on campus.
Following interviews with detectives, White was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
