Caddo jury begins deliberations in First degree murder trial

After a full day of testimony, closing arguments in the Christopher Cope first degree murder trial took place, the judge gave the jury their instructions and the jury went into deliberations just after 6:30 tonight. 

Cope is accused of the first degree murder of Shreveport Police Sgt. Timothy Prunty outside a south Shreveport convenience store in the early morning hours of Oct. 24, 2010.

A 'gulity verdict' is punishable by lthe death penalty or life without possibility of parole, probation or suspension.

If the jury comes back with a guilty verdict tonight, it is likely the penalty phase of the trial will begin sometime tomorrow.
