A Facebook page sparks controversy around a local business. Kokopellis is at the center of an online petition.
As of
Monday morning nearly 2,000 people were a part of a Facebook group trying to
get the club's liquor license revoked. Organizers
hope the loss of the license would force the business to close. Shreveport Police say that's a difficult task
to accomplish.
The club hasn't received any alcohol-related citations or been convicted in the last year. For a license to be
revoked law enforcement must observe violations. That's something that still hasn't happened.
NBC 6 News
spoke with the club's owner. He's been in business for more than a decade and says the allegations have no merit. He added a lot of the people on the Facebook group are
in support of the business staying open. He
also questions the motives of the page organizers.
Liz Swaine, executive director of the Downtown Development Authority says every business must meet certain criteria. Swaine believes since the city took over the Red River District improvements have been made to the area.
