Sheriff Steve Prator, was one of the people who fought to get these records released. Prator feels as if he won a victory. He says having these records will allow him and his deputies to keep people safe in case of an evacuation.
"Should we have a hurricane this weekend and we get two thousand people displaced to Caddo parish. Im going to have deputies at shelter sites. When they enter they`ll be completely run for background checks."
If no one opposes the changes they will take effect August 7th. Law enforcement agencies would have access to background information immediately.
