Convicted sex offender Jerry Sandusky will spend the next 30 years in prison, according to NBC News.
Sandusky, 68, was sentenced by Pennsylvania Judge John Cleland to 30 to 60 years in prison, meaning Sandusky will most likely spend the remainder of his life behind bars.
In June, Sandusky was convicted on 45 counts related to the sexual abuse of 10 boys over a 15 year period.
Prosecutors presented testimony at trial from witnesses who said some of Sandusky's sex acts were committed on the campus of Penn State University. Sandusky was a longtime defensive coordinator under legendary football coach Joe Paterno and had access to the team's facilities long after his retirement from his coaching position with the team.
According to NBC News, Sandusky's attorney, Joe Amendola, said his client will appeal the sentence on the grounds that they were not given enough time to prepare for the trial.
"We're going to challenge the fact that we needed more time to prepare adequately Jerry's defense," Amendola said. "We were literally preparing the night before each day with material that in some cases came in within days of the trial starting."
Sandusky issued a statement from jail on Monday evening maintaining his innocence. According to NBC News, Sandusky claims he was the victim of vast conspiracy. Reported and written by Dan Jovic.
