The Shreveport Fire Department is celebrating 175 years of community service and National Fire Prevention Month.
To kick off the celebration, the department hosted Sparky Day at Independence Stadium. It's an informative session on the many facets of the fire department.
During the morning, Caddo Parish students watched a bomb squad exercise, an extrication with the jaws of life, and they also got to pet the rescue dog. From 6 to 8 p.m., children and their parents are invited to come out and learn about the fire department.
Firefighters were also wearing pink shirts, in honor of breast cancer awareness.
