Five people are thankful for their lives after escaping a house fire Saturday evening.

According to the Shreveport Fire Department, seven units responded to the two-story house fire around 7:30 p.m., on the 2300 block of Thornhill Ave.

Firefighters said the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived. Three adults and two children were inside but no one was injured.

""It appears that most of the damage is in the back of the home," said Scott Wolverton, Chief of Special Operations and Safety with the Shreveport Fire Department.

"It'd be hard to tell where it began at this time. We'll let the investigator make that determination. The home is heavily damaged on the first and second floor."

We talked to one of the residents living in the home. He said everyone was watching TV when they noticed smoke in the back of the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
