NATCHITOCHES - After scoring one touchdown and setting up another with two long returns last Saturday night in Northwestern State's 45-14 win over Mississippi Valley State, Demons senior Phillip Harvey has won Southland Conference and College Football Performance Awards FCS Special Teams Player of the Week awards.

Harvey responded to being victimized by a personal foul on his first attempted return with 168 yards on his next two runbacks. Waiting to field the game's first punt, Harvey was leveled by a Mississippi Valley player well before the ball arrived and had to be helped off the field.

He didn't return to the game until the visitors kicked off after scoring on a 23-yard fumble runback to tie the score. Harvey brought back the kickoff 97 yards to put the Demons ahead 14-7, fielding the ball near the NSU sideline and angling across the field to the Valley sideline and downfield.

In the second quarter, he broke loose on a 71-yard punt return set up Northwestern's fourth touchdown for a 28-7 halftime lead.

Harvey's 97-yard kickoff return was third-longest in school history and best since 1970. It was the second career return score for Harvey, the school's all-time kickoff return yardage leader.
