By: Brian Kushida
Updated: September 20, 2012
Local people in the ArkLaTex will have a new place to cool off this coming year in Texarkana.

Elected officials, local leaders and supporters gathered Wednesday in Texarkana, Arkansas for the groundbreaking of the Holiday Springs Fun park.

The privately-funded water park will be built next to the new convention center on Interstate 30.

The project is expected to draw local crowds and also be a tourist destination for others.

The park will feature a wave pool, five rides, and 10 slides.

It's expected to be open by Memorial Day of next year.
