Mistakes doom winless Ladies

SHREVEPORT - Centenary's home cooking proved ineffective again Tuesday night as the Ladies dropped both legs in the second of its four tri-matches.

The Ladies (0-12) 12-match losing streak is the worst since 2010, losing 19 straight after starting that season 3-2, finishing 3-22. Centenary looks to snap its losing skid in its Southern Collegiate Conference (SCAC) debut against the University of Dallas, which is ranked just outside the top 25.

"I'm not pleased with the level of commitment tonight," head coach Jon Stenman said. "I was encouraged after an emotional week of practice. We had a great week of practice, but that didn't show on the court tonight."

Wiley College (10-5) dominated both of its matches Tuesday, downing Texas Wesleyan (11-7) 3-0 before the 3-0 win over Centenary (25-11, 25-20, 25-16).

Centenary opened the day with a three-set loss to TWU (25-20, 25-10, 25-21) before Wiley defeated Texas Wesleyan (25-14, 25-22, 25-22).

Brooke Bahlinger and Rachel Perkins led Centenary in kills Tuesday with eight and six, respectively.

Errors doomed Centenary's offensive attack, committing 31 to its 47 kills.

"We've got to stop committing so many errors," Stenman said. "We have to at least put the ball in play and make the other team make mistakes instead of giving them free points."
