Rain doesn't damper spirits of local RNC delegates

Updated: August 26, 2012

As rain moved into Tampa Sunday ahead of the Republican National Convention, a reception was held for the thousands of delegates who will converge in Florida to nominate Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate.

Though the threat of the storm has people on guard, it didn't keep Louisiana and Arkansasdelegates from turning out for the opening of festivities.

Tropical Storm Isaac has already delayed the start of the convention. Outside of a ceremonial event marking the beginning of the RNC, events for Monday have been called off.

Among the major changes: South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's speech has moved to Tuesday night, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee speaks on Wednesday night and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush delivers his remarks Thursday night.

Earlier Sunday, GOP officials signaled they were considering an extension to the convention by holding events on Friday, but the new schedule does not include any events for that day.

"We are not considering a Friday session," convention organizers told reporters. "However, we have a weather event. We'll watch the weather and if because of the weather something has to change, we'll let you know."

Ahead of the events, security is very tight on the ground. Checkpoints that included vehicle searches were setup outside Sunday's reception...Reported by Josh Berry
