UPDATE: At 2:30 this afternoon, detectives arrested Gary Granlund Jr., 38, of 6057 Old Mooringsport Road, for illegal possession of stolen things in connection with the ATV caper.
A cell
phone dropped at the scene of a theft on Parkhaven Place in north Caddo Parish
led Caddo detectives to the arrests of their suspects on Wednesday, said
Sheriff Steve Prator.
Coty Thompson, 20, of the 2000 block of Chelsea Drive in Benton, and David Cooper, 17, of the 5500 block of Country Aire Drive in Shreveport were charged with felony theft, after CPSO deputies recovered a cell phone and a pair of bolt cutters from the crime scene where someone stole an ATV after cutting a cable used to secure it.
Caddo Detective Michael Price called several numbers found on the cell phone and got a call back from a local auto repair business. Price posed as a potential customer and got the address for the business.
Detectives went to 6057 Old Mooringsport Road and located the stolen ATV along with other stolen goods.
In all, detectives recovered $30,000 in property, including three ATVs, three riding lawn mowers, two generators, a power washer, a blower, and a set of ramps. The two generators and the power washer were stolen from the I-49 construction site at Hwy. 173. Other items were stolen in Bossier Parish.
Thompson and Cooper were booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for felony theft.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.
