A grandmother Tuesday afternoon was booked into the Bi-State Justice Center on three counts of Abandoning/Endangering a Child.
Dunashautta Moore, 41, left her three grandchildren - ages 10, 2 and 1 month-old - in a vehicle while she shopped in a local store in the 4000 block of New Boston Road in Texarkana.
According to Texarkana, Texas police, officers received a call about children being left unattended in a vehicle at the local store.
Upon arrival, officers James Dean and Elaine Cochran found the children in the vehicle. Although the officers said the windows were rolled halfway down, they estimated the temperature to be 100 degrees at the time of the incident.
The oldest child was able to give officers the name of her grandmother, who was then contacted via cell phone.
Moore responded to the call, but only after finishing her shopping. A total of 19 minutes had elapsed since Moore entered the store.
After finally meeting with officers, Moore was arrested on three counts of Abandoning/Endangering a Child.
Child Protective Services was called to the scene. The children were released to the custody of their aunt after being evaluated by Lifenet personnel. Moore was booked into jail at the Bi-State Justice Center and is awaiting bond.
