Tonight (July 17), the Caddo Parish School Board gave the green light tonight, for Charter School USA to bring in the Magnolia School of Excellence during the fall of 2013.
It appears a new charter school is making it's way to Caddo Parish -- the school board approving an application by Charter School USA.
The board voted to approve the plan, saying the company showed a strong business plan, and curriculum that's aligned with current standards.
"A lot of that comes down to a specific curriculum which is very data driven which allows our teachers to tailor instruction to students needs; Have personalized learning plans for students so that they cannot be tied to what a whole class is doing but achieve and make academic progress along their own schedule," said Chakana Fowler, director of development with Charter Schools USA,
Leaders with the Shreveport Education Foundation and Charter School USA have been pushing to create the charter school. Charter school critic, School Board Member Dottie Bell, however, said up to Tuesday's vote her questions about what could be done differently still have yet to be answered.
"I'm going to sit back wait and see, but I feel that nothing is like a public education and a public school and Caddo Parish is the best," Bell said.
Leaders with Charter School USA say they don't have a location for the school just yet.
Once the school opens it will teach K through sixth grade..
