This is Energy Camp Louisiana's third year providing free camps to high schoolers throughout Northwest Louisiana and we continue to grow! Thanks to dedicated companies like Platinum sponsors, Encana Oil and Gas (USA) Inc., and Shell Oil Company we have been able to expand to five, week-long camps, allowing us to reach out to even more students. "We are thrilled to see Energy Camp Louisiana's growth each year," said Steve Short of Encana. "This camp is extremely important for Encana and Louisiana educators as it jumpstarts a lifelong interest in energy and natural resources for these students."
"Shell is very proud of the way energy is not only being harnessed in the Energy Camp classrooms, but in the surrounding community. It is very exciting to have new partners join the collaboration as it validates the importance of exposing today's youth to math and science" said James Blanton, Operations Manager Shell Exploration & Production Company. "This year we had the opportunity to host two Energy Camps at our Mansfield Office Complex which our employees definitely look forward to and enjoy, one of the highlights is making root beer floats out of dry ice."
Our goal is to expose high school students to the exciting and vital role the energy industry is playing in Northwest Louisiana. Students from Caddo, Bossier, Red River DeSoto and Natchitoches Parishes are eligible to attend. These camps involve fun, hands-on activities as well as field trips that educate and energize local youth about fossil fuels, alternative energies and energy efficiency and conservation.
Energy Camp Louisiana is a joint effort of CERT, the Consortium for Education, Research and Technology of North Louisiana along with our platinum sponsors plus the United Way of Northwest Louisiana, the City of Shreveport, American Electric Power Foundation and CenterPoint Energy.
The remaining three of this year's five camps are June 18-22 and June 25-29 at Bossier Parish Community College and July 9-13 at Northwestern State University.
