De Queen mother accuses school of abuse to daughter

A De Queen, Arkansas parent is accusing local school officials of taking corporal punishment too far.

Mother Vickie Bailey says a school official allegedly paddled her 14-year-old daughter April 2 at De Queen Middle School, causing bruising on the child's body.

The then-eighth grade student says she was sent out of class for falling asleep.

Although Bailey says she signed a corporal punishment waiver with the district, she says her child was abused.

She wants the officials involved to be removed from being around children.

"I feel like I need justice done about it and I don't like it," Bailey said.

School officials say they can't directly address the allegations, citing student privacy law.  However, a spokesperson says no student has been unfairly subjected to corporal punishment.
