Recount puts Texarkana college board contenders in dead heat

Mike Sandefur, President of the Texarkana College Board of Trustees and recount supervisor and coordinator, announced the final results of today's recount for Place 2 of the Texarkana College Board of Trustees Election.

  The results are as follows:

Both candidates (Jean Cotten and Julie-Ray Harrison) received exactly 700 votes which results in a tie.

According to legal counsel, there are three options for a tie-breaker:

1.   One candidate may choose to withdraw from the election and deem the other candidate the winner

2.   Both can agree to cast lots to determine a winner (Example:  a flip of a coin or draw straws, etc....)

3.   A new election can be held no less than 20 days and no more than 30 days from the date of the canvassing of the votes.  The canvass will be held at the Board of Trustees meeting held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 in the Great Room of the Truman Arnold Student Center, Texarkana College, 2500 N. Robison Road, Texarkana, TX.
