He hasn't been in your living room for the past few year, but don't think Bob Barker isn't busy. Since his retirement, the television legend and former Price is Right host has been staying busy, donating millions of dollars to animal rights causes.
Thursday, the beneficiary of his philanthropy was Chimp Haven. Barker and the staff unveiled the brand new Bob Barker Chimpanzee Habitat. Mr. Barker donated $380,000 to fund its construction. He also brought a surprise gift of $120,000 with him, making his total contribution to the facility half-a-million dollars.
Five male chimps will now live in the house that Bob built: Doc, Jojo, Murphy, Flick, and Pierre. They were rescued from a Texas based sanctuary that had gone bankrupt. Before that, they were all in bio-medical research labs, infected with HIV in the name of science.
Bob Barker has provided the home where they will live for the rest of their lives, just another in a long line of good things he's done for animals and the people who take care of them. He wants you to remember that you can do your part, of course, by having your pets spayed and neutered.
