Salvania: learn to spray It

In response to the Giant Salvinia infestation on Lake Bistineau, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in cooperation with Bistineau Task Force and Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry has scheduled herbicidal spraying training for private landowners with property located on the lake.
Training will be held at the LDWF office at 9961 Hwy. 80 in Minden on Saturday, February 18. It will begin at 8 a.m. and end around noon. The training session is free, but space is limited to 75 participants.
"The Giant Salvinia has become such a problem in the lake," LDAF Commissioner Mike Strain said. "A training for landowners has been approved for the area, and I encourage those affected to participate in this important program."
Certified instructors will train participants to combat Giant Salvinia infestation on their property along the lake. After completion of the training course, participants will be qualified for private spraying certification.
"There will be a representative from LDAF to go over what they are required to do as far as paperwork and documentation," LDWF Fisheries Biology Manager Evan Thames said.
A list of chemical sales outlets will also be provided.
According to Thames, anyone wanting to spray for Salvinia on his or her property will need to complete the course and receive certification.
