BPCC'S CAMP CAVS: SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS ANNOUNCES SUMMER 2012 OFFERINGS

Camp Cavs, BPCC's summer program for kids, will be held in the months of June and July 2012.   Camps are 3 or 4 hours and are scheduled Monday-Friday, unless otherwise noted. Camps are available for ages 5-18 and will include baseball, softball, basketball, BMX, bowling, cheer, dance, guitar,  theater/drama, Glee, painting, drawing, sculpture, comics and illustration, book publishing, cooking, CSI, sewing, and pet care. All campers will receive T-shirts. 

Registration for Camp Cavs is open, and camps will be held at Bossier Parish Community College campus, UNLESS otherwise noted.  There may be additional supply fees associated with certain camps.  For more information or to register, contact BPCC's Workforce and Continuing Education Department at (318) 678-6015 or go online at www.bpcc.edu/continuingeducation.  Campers must complete a release form prior to participation.



Listed below are the 2012 CAMP CAVS camps:


Cavalier Softball Camp

5/29-6/1                                   8:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 6-15                              $109

Catch all the action this summer at the Camp Cavs Softball Camp hosted by the BPCC Lady Cavs softball team. Open to all skill levels for girls ages 6-15, participants will be assigned to a group by age and/or skill level. This will be a fun week to brush-up on your skills or try out softball for the first time. The schedule is flexible, and the college athletes and coaches will do their best to work with all of the participant's individual needs. Every facet of the game of softball is covered--including hitting, base running, outfield, infield, pitching/catching, and team play. Campers should dress in gym clothing and bring their own gear such as bat, helmet, batting gloves, tennis shoes, and glove.


Book Publishing for Teens

5/29-6/1                                   9:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 13-16                            $109

Have you ever wanted to write a book? Did you know you could publish it yourself? Students, ages 13-16, will learn the basics of self-publishing and how to develop and format a book for publication. Students will need to bring pen and paper.



Cavalier Drama Fun Fest

6/4-6/8                                     8:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 8-12                              $129

Supply Fee: $15

Discover your creative nature!  Campers ages 8-12 will explore acting, make-up, and costuming.  An all-star presentation will be presented on the last day of camp.   Supplies $15.00



Drawing and Painting Camp

Section A: 6/4-6/8                  8:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 9-12                              $129

Section B: 7/16-7/20

Supply Fee: $30

Campers will be introduced to various drawing and painting techniques using pencils, charcoal, pastel, and acrylic paint on a variety of paper, boards and canvas.



Drawing and Painting Camp for Teens

Section A: 6/4-6/8                  1:00PM- 5:00PM                    Ages: 13-16                            $129

Section B: 7/16-7/20

Supply Fee: $30

Cavalier Baseball Camp

6/5-6/8                                     9:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 7-14                              $109

The Cavalier Baseball Camp is an all-around skills camp focusing on fundamentals and conditioning. There will be instruction and focus on fundamentals including hitting mechanics, bunting, fielding, catching, throwing, and pitching. Camp is open to all skill levels for boys ages 7-14; participants will be assigned to a group by age and/or skill level. The schedule is flexible and the college athletes and coaches will do their best to work with all of the participants' individual needs. Campers should dress in gym clothing and bring their own gear such as bat, helmet, batting gloves, tennis shoes, and glove.



Cavalier Cheer Camp

6/11-6/15                                 8:00AM-11AM                        Ages: 5-12                              $109

Ages 5-12

Interested in becoming a cheerleader? This camp will be a perfect opportunity to learn what the sport is all about! BPCC Lady Cavalier Cheerleaders will teach campers the fundamentals of cheering and a variety of cheers and chants. On the last day of camp, campers will also perform a spirit dance!

 

 

Cavalier Glee Camp

6/11-6/15                                 8:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 12-16                            $129

Supply Fee: $15

With a mix of pop and musical theatre, campers will have the opportunity to sing and dance beyond the traditional musical theatre camp. Get ready to challenge yourself with the ultimate musical theatre experience!



BMX Riding Camp

6/11-6/15                                 8:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 5-18                              $129

Whether it's making your main races, learning line assignments and race order, or just playing in the dirt...the name of the game is STILL FUN! Boost self-esteem and confidence in a fun, safe environment. Learn the proper selection and fit of BMX safety gear, how to navigate various obstacles and become a proficient rider. All campers will receive a 30-day membership to the American Bicycle Association.

 


Cavalier Danceline Camp

6/18-6/22                                 8:00AM-11AM                        Ages: 5-12                              $109

Learn high kicks and the latest danceline moves with the BPCC Ladies in Gold danceline.  Campers ages 5-12 will have a performance on the camp's last day.



Cavalier Holiday Lanes USA Youth Bowling Camp

6/18-6/22                                 9:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 7-12                              $139

Each day begins with "Skill Drills" designed to facilitate learning to swing the ball. Through repetition and a variety of fun bowling games, the campers will learn a new sport, meet new friends, learn the rules of the game, and, most importantly, just have FUN! Proper lane etiquette, explanation of scorekeeping, and bowling lingo are all included in the Summer Youth Camp. Coaching provided from Certified USBC coaches. Camp includes lunch and t-shirt. Camp held at Holiday Lanes, 3316 Old Minden Road, Bossier City.



Cavalier CSI Camp

6/25-6/29                                 1:00PM- 5:00PM                    Ages: 10-14                            $129

Learn how to detect clues and apply CSI techniques! Collect evidence, learn about the basics of blood evidence, the use of hairs and fibers and learn to lift and analyze fingerprints.



Cavalier Young Chefs Camp

6/25-6/29                                 1:00PM-5:00PM                     Ages: 7-11                              $129

Supply Fee: $30.00

Insurance Fee: $6.00

Campers, ages 7-11, will learn recipes, basic nutrition, and age appropriate culinary skills necessary to develop their love of cooking and allow creativity to mesh with culinary techniques for exciting results!

 

 

Guitar Camp

7/9-7/13                                   8:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 10-14                            $129

Supply Fee: $30

This course is for the absolute beginning guitarist. Students, ages 10-14, will be introduced to the different types of guitars and guitar styles, basic open chord, first position notes, bar chords, reading TAB notation and chord symbols. Students will need to provide a guitar; an acoustic (non-electric) guitar is preferred. Student must supply a small amplifier if an electric guitar will be used. Students are required to bring a music stand.


 

Color Design: Manga Comics and Illustration

7/9-7/13                                   8:00AM-Noon                        Ages: 9-12                              $129

Supply Fee: $25

This freestyle and contemporary art camp will include types of illustration. Campers will keep a sketch journal and create finished pieces using pencils, pen and paint while exploring graffiti art, creating story line and figures.

Cavalier Basketball Camp

Learn the fundamentals of basketball at Camp Cavs Basketball Camp. This youth camp, designed for players ages 6-14, teaches the essential skills such as ball handling, passing, shooting, defensive positioning, and footwork.



Clay & Wire Sculpture Camp

7/23-7/27                                 1:00PM- 5:00PM                    Ages: 5-8                                $129

Supply Fee: $20

Twist, fold and loop wire to create an Alexander Cader-inspired animals out of clay and wire. Explore various techniques for bending and manipulating wire while having fun!



DIY Sewing for Tweens and Teens

7/23-7/27                                 1:00PM-4:00PM                     Ages: 10-17                            $109

Supply Fee: $10

Turn old jeans into a fabulous new skirt, recycle old T-shirts into trendy new tops, and learn tie dye techniques and how to make your own tote bag from batik fabric. STUDENTS MUST BRING SEWING MACHINE.



PEP! Cherish & Care Pet Camp

7/23-7/27                                 8:00AM-11AM                        Ages: 5-7                                $109

Supply Fee: $20

Grasp what it takes to have and take care of a pet. Have fun with some very special furry guests as you learn how to properly take care and love your pet. Venture into the five components of care: food, water, shelter, care, and love! (There will be live animals brought in each day for a short time. Mostly hospitality trained dogs. Not recommended for youth with animal allergies.)

BPCC RECEIVES MAJOR GIFT FROM ENCANA OIL & GAS (USA) INC.
Encana Oil & Gas Company (USA) Inc. is investing in the future of the energy industry in Northwest Louisiana with a contribution to Bossier Parish Community College's Capital Fund.  The $425,000 donation will help jumpstart the building campaign for the new Center for Integrated Engineering Technologies (CIET) Building.  The new structure will house the Oil and Gas Technology programs, the Engineering program, the Construction programs, and the Advanced Manufacturing/Industrial Technology programs.

BOSSIER VOLUNTEERS GUILD DONATES TO BPCC FOUNDATION IN SUPPORT OF NURSING STUDENTS

On Monday, October 3, 2011, the ladies of the Bossier Volunteers Guild (formerly Christus Schumpert Volunteers Guild) donated $10,000 to the BPCC Foundation to support students in BPCC's nursing program. Since 2003, members of the Guild, also known as the "Pink Ladies" have donated $1,000 - $2,000 annually toward the scholarship fund to recognize eligible students in the medical field.
