Members of the Twin City Knockers say roller derby is tough. Some of the ladies have even had injuries ranging from bruises to broken bones. Jennifer "PopUp Blocker" Roe and Bre "Breasaurus" Garcia became interested in the sport after seeing a team from Tennessee skate here two years ago. And while both Roe and Garcia agree they love roller derby because its fun, competitive and tough, they say the Twin City Knockers are also a family. And that's why they're kicking off their season opener this Saturday with a fundraiser to help a fellow member, whose son died suddenly just last month. They'll be holding a raffle with thousands of dollars in prizes, and will also give some of their proceeds to Chimp Haven.
It turns out the Twin City Knockers may be bad to the bone, but they're really all heart.
This weekend the ladies host their season opener at Hotwheels on Alfred Lane in Bossier. Doors open at 6 with the show at 7. Tickets are 15 dollars at the door.
