DOD officially confirms death of Barksdale airman, two others

The U.S. Department of Defense early this morning (Jan. 7, 2012) officially confirmed the death of Barksdale Senior Airman Bryan Bell, 23, who died Thursday in Afghanistan, along with the deaths of two other airmen who were with him. The cause of their deaths was also released.

They died Jan. 5 in Shir ghazi, Helmand province, Afghanistan, when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. In addition to Bell, casualties were:

Tech. Sgt. Matthew S. Schwartz, 34, of Traverse City, Mich. He was assigned to the 90th Civil Engineer Squadron, FE Warren Air Force Base, Wyo.

Airman 1st Class Matthew R. Seidler, 24, of Westminster, Md. He was assigned to the 21st Civil Engineer Squadron, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
