"You know I just thought, how could it happen on the same institution just four or five years later," explained Austin Rinehart.

Centenary student, Austin Rinehart couldn't believe the Virginia Tech news, he was notified through the schools emergency system.

"Really good for students just in a moment of crisis such as Virginia Tech," he added. "That in a moments notice we can all receive the text message and be aware of things that are going on."

Nearly 85-percent of the students and faculty are linked to the system, but if the incident did occur at Centenary that leaves 15-percent, who would have no idea of a crisis taking place on campus.

"We have a high number of folks in our community who have already done that," mentioned Matt Bailey. "In light of the situation today we did send an urgent email out reminding them to make sure they've signed up."

Calls and emails flooded the office from people ready to sign up. Centenary officers are on gaurd too knowing an officer was gunned down at virginia tech.

"It's just something that officers have to take serious everytime they come into contact with somebody," explained Lt. Eddie Walker. "That this person may want to do harm to you they might have just robbed a bank."

As well keep students safe.

"It's a full time job we're here 24/7 and it's a job we take serious ,take with a passion," concluded Walker.
