Tech's Ryan Allen named a finalist for the Ray Guy Award

BRISTOL, Conn. (Nov. 21, 2011) - ESPN, in conjunction with the Augusta Sports Council, announced Monday on The Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special on ESPNU, that Louisiana Tech's Ryan Allen is one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award.
Allen is one of three finalists for the award, given to the nation's best punter, along with Auburn's Steven Clark and Oregon's Jackson Rice.
The winner will be announced on the Home Depot College Football Awards Show televised live on ESPN on Dec. 8 at 8 p.m. CT.
Ranked fourth in the nation with an average of 46.4 yards per punt, Allen leads the nation in both punts inside the 20 (36) and punts inside the 10 (19). Allen has averaged 47 or more yards per punt in six games this year while averaging more than 50 yards in two games this year.
The Salem, Ore. native has recorded better stats than the other two finalists in several punting categories this year, including number of punts, total punting yardage, punting average per game, longest punt of the season, more punts inside the 20, more punts inside the 10, more 50-plus yard punts than the other two finalists.
Allen and the Bulldogs (7-4, 5-1 WAC) host New Mexico State (4-7, 2-3) in the team's regular season finale. A win would clinch at least a share of the WAC Championship for Louisiana Tech, which would be the program's first conference title since 2001, and extend the team's winning streak to six consecutive wins.
