Local Police Agencies Out In Force For 4th Of July Holiday

Caddo and Shreveport Police were out in force Tuesday, all in an effort to maintain public safety. Caddo deputies working as a part of the Red River Task force, were patrolling the waters. "We`re going to enforce the laws out here on the water... Reckless careless op, no wake zone violations, DWI, boater registration, equipment violations, is what we`re looking for." said Sgt. Donna Johnson, of the Caddo Marine Patrol. Back on land, a mobile command post was set up to test boaters for DWI. Meanwhile, K-9 units and mounted patrol were roaming the grounds of the Stoner Boat Launch and Hamel Park. "We had some alcohol down on the sandbar. We made one arrest... We had some loud music. We made them turn it down." said Shreveport Mounted Patrol Officer Laura Sorrells. Cpl. Bill Goodin was one of about 75 Shreveport Police Officers working crowd control along the Red River. "First and foremost, of course is public safety. We want everyone to have a good time. But to be safe while they`re doing it." said Goodin. Officers say few problems were reported. And crowds were slimmer than last year, possibly because of the rainy weather.
