Right tackle Jon Stinchcomb has been released by the Saints.

Stinchcomb had returned to practice with the Saints last week after sitting out the previous two workouts to rest his surgically repaired left knee.

During practice Sunday, sixth-year pro Zach Strief was lined up with the starting unit ahead of longtime starter Stinchcomb.

tinchcomb's performance dropped off in 2010 after he made his Pro Bowl debut in 2009, though that was largely because of a significant knee injury that Stinchcomb played through.

Coach Sean Payton said the team went into this training camp planning to create competition at the position and that Strief has earned the opportunity throughout his five years in New Orleans.
