Deputies Learn How To Protect The Public

By: Import User
Updated: February 5, 2007
Right now the department is training deputies who will become instructors. Deputies learn everything from how to use a weapon to defensive tactics. Wednesday they were learning what to do when an assailant comes at them with a knife. A case Bruce Touch is familiar with, it happened to him once. "It`s pretty scary, your heart rate goes up about two hundred beats a minute. you really focus in tunnel vision on the knife." He`s a living example on why good, continuing training is key to keeping everyone safe. The Bossier parish sheriff`s department says no deputies have been killed in altercations since the 19-50`s. They credit good training and luck.
