With heads bowed and hearts humbled, those here at First United Methodist Church in Shreveport are offering up a prayer of thanks during this National Day of Prayer.
"We have so much to be thankful for and so much to pray for," said Bud Storer.
Bud and Martha Storer's grandson is deployed in Afghanistan, they are praying for his safe return home.
"He has been over there for about four months now," added Storer. "He's a marine near the Pakistan border so we pray for him everyday."
Along with from prayer for our military, area leaders are joining the community to head up prayers for the local government, school officials and community members. Despite differences in political and religious beliefs.
"Prayer is something we can all join in on," said Anne King. "It's good for everybody, we feel good praying and we hoped that we can accomplish through community prayer as well as private prayer."
anne king is praying for the families of the hundreds of lives lost in the recent tornadoes that ripped through the south.
