Police have tracked down a convicted murderer wanted for robbery in the Ark-La-Tex. Caddo Detectives say David Bowlby was very convincing when he approached his elderly victim, offering to sell him some vacant land. "He actually picked him up in Bossier City at our victims place of business.. under the pretense of going and looking at this land that he had for sale." said Detective Michael Escude. The victim says Bowlby drove him to a wooded area of Highway 169 in Caddo Parish. That`s when Bowlby allegedly pulled a gun, forced the victim to strip down to his underwear, then stole thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry. Detectives were able to track down Bowlby through an acquaintance he mentioned to his victim. During the course of the investigation, police found out Bowlby was on parole in Texas after serving 18 years of a 99 year sentence for the brutal murder of his mother. "He beat his mother to death with a baseball bat, Then he hacked her body up.. put her remains in a garbage bag and drove 12 hours to St.Francisville, Louisiana where he dumped her on the side of the road." said Escude. Bowlby`s Texas parole officer told authorities that he was last seen working in the New Orleans area cleaning and hauling FEMA trailers. US Marshals found him at a South Louisiana hospital getting treatment for kidney stones. That`s where they took him into custody, finally bringing closure for the elderly victim in Bossier. "We are just lucky the victim wasn`t killed. Based on this guys past history...We are all just surprised it didn`t have a tragic ending." said Escude. David Bowlby is facing aggravated kidnapping charges in Bossier Parish and armed robbery charges in Caddo Parish.
