breaking news
Around 11 a.m. Monday morning, Texarkana, Arkansas fire marshal Stephon Johnson was looking over the Southwest Arkansas Community Correction Center when he smelled smoke on the 2nd floor.
Nearly 200-inmates were quickly rushed out of the building and to a nearby basketball court.
Investigators have an idea of who may set this fire.
"I can not find any accidental souce of ignition so that`s what I`m looking at right now....an inmate may have set it," said Fire Marshall Stephen Johnson of the Texarkana, Arkansas Fire Department. "Most of the damage was confined to the second floor of the building."
He also said they`ve had a history of fires at this facility. "Approximately 3 months ago they had another fire and it was by the inmates," Johnson said.
Fire investigators are still interviewing inmates to pin-point the person responsible. If a suspect is caught, they may very well face more charges.
