Negligent homicide suspect Robert Connally, turned himself in to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office today. An arrest warrant was issued for Connally, 54, on Jan. 13. He is charged in the shooting death of 41-year-old Louis N. Conner of Overton.
The charge of Criminal Negligent Homicide came after the investigation was completed and the case file was presented to the Rusk County District Attorney’s Office. Connally was arraigned this morning by Precinct 5, Justice of the Peace, Joe H. Sorrells. His bond was set at $50,000.
Connally admitted to shooting Conner on Jan. 1, stating he had mistaken the victim for a deer while hunting. At the time of the shooting Connally was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, 3rd degree felony, and was later released on a $50,000 bond.
Rusk County Sheriff Danny R. Pirtle said by turning himself in, Connally saved the man power of Rusk County Sheriff’s Office in an attempt to locate him. This gives all officers the opportunity to continue protecting and serving the citizens of Rusk County.
