People doing good deeds were honored for their work in our community Monday night. The Spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards were held at Lake Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Four people were recognized for their efforts in the community, education, civil rights and law enforcement.
"We don't want to rest on our laurels," says Shreveport Police Willie Shaw. "We don't just want to celebrate this one day, we've got work to do [...] let's get to work."
Chief Shaw was among the four recipients honored. The other three include Mary Alice Rountree with the Caddo Council on Aging, Mary Nash Robinson with Caddo Schools, and Pastor Frank Daniels, Jr. a Shreveport native who was extremely active in the Civil Rights Movement.
